A client is anyone you bill. In Fee-Lion, every client is a company record that carries everything you attach to it, so your work stays organized from the first estimate to the final payment.
When you’d use this
Add a client the moment a lead becomes real, before you build the estimate. The company record is what every document, payment, and project hangs off, so creating it first means the estimate you write next already knows the billing address, the logo, and the contact who will approve it. If you are moving from another tool, do not add clients one by one; the importer brings them in with their open invoices in a single pass.
You can also add a client inline from inside an estimate or invoice when you are mid-document and realize the company is new. The record is created the same way and you carry on without losing your place.
Add the client
- Open Companies and choose New.
- Set the type to client — this tells Fee-Lion that you bill this company, so invoices route to it.
- Enter the company name and contact details.
- Save the record.
Fill in the details that flow onto documents
A company record holds its projects, estimates, invoices, expenses, contacts, and running balance all in one spot. A few fields do extra work:
- Add a billing address and a shipping address. These flow straight onto the documents you send.
- Add an emblem or logo for the company. It renders across your lists and in the client portal.
Tip: Fill in addresses now, before you send anything. They appear automatically on every estimate and invoice for this client, so you set them once instead of every time.
FAQ
What if the client is a person, not a company?
Create the company record under the person’s name. Fee-Lion treats every billable party as a company so sole traders, individuals, and corporations all work the same way and share the same features.
Can a client also be a vendor?
Yes. The type decides which way money flows by default, but if you both bill and pay the same business, create it once and record expenses against it as well as invoices.
Do I need to add a contact right away?
You need one before you can send anything to the portal, because the magic link goes to a contact’s email. Adding the company alone is fine for drafting.
