Project discussions

Discussions live right on the project, so the conversation about the work sits next to the work. They’re threaded and visible to the client who’s involved, which keeps everyone on the same page.

When you’d use this

Move a conversation into the project discussion whenever its outcome needs to be remembered: scope changes, approvals of a direction, delivery dates, anything you might need to point back to in a month. Day-to-day pleasantries can stay in email. The discussion is also the right place for questions that involve several people at the client, because everyone with portal access sees the same thread instead of a forwarded chain with half the context missing.

Start a discussion

  1. Open the project and go to its discussions.
  2. Post a message to start a thread, or reply to keep an existing one going.
  3. The client involved in the project can see and join the thread.

Why it beats email

Because discussions are searchable and attributable, you can always find who said what and when. Scope decisions and approvals stay on the record instead of getting buried in an inbox.

Tip: When a scope change comes up, settle it in the project discussion. That way the decision lives with the job that it affects.

FAQ

Does the client get an email when I post?

Yes. Contacts on the project are notified of new messages, and the email links them straight into the thread in the portal.

Can I attach files to a discussion?

Attach files to the project or the related estimate and reference them in the thread, so documents stay with the job rather than in the chat.

Can I have internal-only threads?

Discussions on a project are visible to the client contacts involved. Keep internal notes in the project’s own notes rather than the discussion.
