A one-click approval is quick, but sometimes you want a signature on the dotted line. With one setting, Fee-Lion asks clients to type their name and draw a signature before an estimate is approved, and keeps a record of who signed and when.
When you’d use this
Turn it on when your estimates carry terms you want clearly agreed to, such as payment terms, change-order rules or cancellation terms. It gives you a stronger record than a button click if there’s ever a question about what the client agreed to. Signatures are included on every plan, with no per-signature fees.
How to turn it on
- Go to Settings → Preferences → Estimates.
- In the Terms & Signature section, turn on Require Signature to Approve.
- Check that your Terms text says what you want clients to agree to.
- Save. The setting applies to estimates across your whole workspace.
What the client does
When the client taps Approve, an Approve & sign sheet opens. It shows the amount and your Terms, then asks for:
- Your full name, typed.
- A Signature, drawn with a finger, stylus or mouse. A Clear button lets them start over.
- A checkbox agreeing to the Terms and that their typed name and drawn signature are their electronic signature.
They finish with Sign & approve.
What gets recorded
Fee-Lion stores the signer’s name and email, their IP address, device (user agent), the time, and a SHA-256 hash of the terms text, so you can show which version of the terms they agreed to. The estimate review in the app shows “Signed by” with the name and date and the audit details. The printable estimate and PDF include a signed-approval audit block.
Tip: Keep your Terms short and specific. Clients read a clear paragraph; they skim a wall of text.
FAQ
Is an e-signature legally binding?
E-signatures are recognised in many places, for example under the US ESIGN Act, but whether one is enough depends on your contract and where you work. Ask a lawyer if you need a firm answer.
Can I require it for some estimates only?
The setting is workspace-wide, so it applies to all estimates while it’s on.
