Solo or Studio? Choosing the Right Plan

Billing Plans Setup

Picking a plan shouldn’t feel like a commitment ceremony. The honest answer is simple: Solo ($9/mo) is built for one person running the whole show, and Studio ($29/mo) is built for the moment a teammate joins the work. Both plans run the full core loop — estimate, approve, convert, get paid — so this is really a question of how many hands are on the keyboard.

The quick gut-check

Forget feature charts for a second. Answer these and you’ll know which way to lean:

  • Are you the only person sending estimates and invoices? Solo is your home. You get the complete billing engine, recurring invoices, time tracking, expenses, projects, and reports — just for one operator.
  • Is anyone else logging hours, chasing approvals, or managing projects with you? That’s Studio territory. The jump to Studio is about bringing people onto the same workspace, not unlocking some hidden feature you’ve been missing.
  • Do you hire help on and off? If a contractor only touches the work occasionally, Solo may still fit. The day collaboration becomes constant, Studio earns its keep.

Tip: Start on the 14-day free trial before you decide. Build a real estimate, send it through the client portal, and convert it to an invoice. Living through the loop once tells you more than any comparison table — and you can switch plans anytime without losing your data.

What stays the same on both plans

This is the part people miss: the work itself doesn’t change between Solo and Studio. On either plan you can:

  • Build estimates with tasks (hours × rate), fees, discounts, tax, and a deposit %, then send a magic-link portal where clients approve with one click.
  • Convert an approved estimate into an invoice (or a project) and let clients pay by card straight into your own Stripe.
  • Run recurring invoices with auto-pay, track time that bills to invoices, attribute expenses to projects for margin, and read your Reports from the sidebar.

So you’re never choosing between “basic” and “real.” You’re choosing between “just me” and “me plus my people.”

When it’s time to upgrade

Growth usually announces itself. Watch for these signs that Studio is calling:

  • You’re forwarding screenshots of project checklists instead of letting a teammate update them directly.
  • A contractor is emailing you their hours so you can re-enter them — instead of tracking time in the workspace themselves.
  • You want a second set of eyes on invoice aging and the ops dashboard without sharing your own login.

When you’re ready, the move takes about a minute:

  1. Open Settings → Preferences from the left sidebar to confirm your branding, payment terms, and tax defaults are dialed in — these carry over for your whole team.
  2. Head to your subscription settings and switch from Solo to Studio.
  3. Invite your first teammate so they land in the same workspace, ready to log time and move projects forward.

Downsizing works the same way. If a project wraps and you’re back to a one-person operation, you can step down to Solo whenever it makes sense. The plan should follow your business — not box it in.
