New to Fee-Lion? This is your map for week one. Follow it in order and you’ll have a branded workspace, a client on file, your first estimate or invoice out the door, and your team alongside you. Each step links to a focused how-to so you can go as deep as you like.
Why a week, not an afternoon
You could set everything up in an hour, but spreading it over a few days means each step gets tested against real work: a real client, a real estimate, a real payment. By the end of the week you will know how the whole loop feels before you decide on a plan, which is what the 14-day trial is for.
Day 1: Make it yours
- Confirm your workspace (your “lair”) from your sign-up email, then open Settings → Preferences → Branding to add your workspace name, logo, and a default template style.
- While you’re in Settings → Preferences, set defaults like payment terms, tax rate, and deposit percentage so every new document starts pre-filled.
- Pick your trade at Settings → Starter Kit (or during signup) to load a price book, estimate templates and defaults for your kind of work.
The Get paid in 10 minutes checklist on Getting Started ticks off each step as you finish it, from your logo to your first payment.
Day 2-3: Bring in your work
You have two ways to populate your workspace:
- Import from another app (Zoho, QuickBooks, FreshBooks, Wave, and more) at Settings → Data Import.
- Add a client by hand if you’re starting fresh.
Day 4-5: Send your first document
- Create an estimate to scope a job, or jump straight to an invoice to bill for work already done.
- Send it, then track whether it’s been viewed, approved, or paid.
Tip: Connect Stripe early so clients can pay online the moment your first invoice lands.
End of week: Invite your team
If you’re not solo, head to Settings → Team and send magic-link invites. Owners, admins, and members each get the right level of access.
FAQ
I only invoice; do I need estimates at all?
No. Skip straight to invoices. Estimates are there for work you quote first, and you can start using them later without changing anything else.
Can I import from a spreadsheet?
Yes. The importer accepts CSV exports from other apps or your own spreadsheet and auto-maps the columns, so your clients and open invoices arrive in one pass.
What should I do first if I am short on time?
Add your logo, connect Stripe, and send one invoice. That is the minimum that gets you paid online this week; everything else can follow.
