Use a trade starter kit and estimate templates

Estimates Setup Starter Kits

The signup step asking what kind of work you do, with Plumbing selected among the trade starter kits.

A starter kit sets your workspace up for the kind of work you do. Pick your trade and Fee-Lion adds a price book, estimate templates, a request form, expense categories and default settings that suit it. It never adds sample clients or fake invoices.

When you’d use this

Right after you sign up, so your first estimate starts from real lines instead of a blank page. You can also apply a kit later, or add a second one if you cover more than one trade.

Pick your trade

  1. After signup, step 2 asks What kind of work do you do? Pick one of 21 trades, from plumbing and HVAC to web design and IT services, or choose Something else.
  2. Choose Use the kit. To do it later, go to Settings → Starter Kit.

What a kit adds

  • A price book of your trade’s common services and materials, with rates and units.
  • Two or three estimate templates, with Good / Better / Best packages where your trade sells in tiers, plus a deposit and payment schedule.
  • A request form listing your trade’s services. It starts switched off.
  • Defaults such as payment terms, deposit percentage, hourly and cost rates, a schedule preset and estimate follow-ups on days 3, 7 and 14.
  • Your trade’s expense categories.

A kit only fills in what’s missing. Any setting you’ve already changed stays as it is, so applying a kit twice is safe.

Start from a template, or save your own

  1. Start a new estimate and choose a template from Start from a template, or Start blank.
  2. To save one of your own estimates, open it and choose More → Save as template. Give it a name.
  3. Rename or remove templates in Settings → Starter Kit.

Templates keep lines, packages, deposit, schedule and notes. They never copy the client, project, dates or reference number.

Tip: The “Get paid in 10 minutes” checklist on Getting Started ticks itself off as you go: trade, logo and colour, Stripe, price book, first estimate, request form and first payment.

FAQ

Can I edit the kit’s prices?

Yes. They’re ordinary price-book items. Change them to your own rates.

Where is the checklist after I dismiss it?

Reopen it from the help menu in the nav rail.
