The moment a payment clears, your client wants one thing: proof they paid. Fee-Lion has the receipt ready the second the money lands, so you’re not rebuilding it by hand. Here’s where to find it and how to get it into your client’s inbox or filing system.
Where the receipt lives
Every paid invoice carries its own receipt. Once a card payment succeeds, the invoice flips to Paid and the receipt is generated automatically from the line items, tax, and any deposit already applied. You don’t trigger anything to create it.
- Open Invoices in the left sidebar and click the invoice that was paid.
- Look for the Paid badge and the payment record on the invoice. This confirms the money settled into your own Stripe.
- Use Download PDF to pull a clean, branded receipt showing the amount paid, the payment date, and the remaining balance (usually zero).
The PDF reflects whatever you’ve set under Settings → Preferences → Branding, so your logo and details ride along on every receipt without extra work.
Tip: Took a partial payment or applied a deposit earlier? The receipt shows what was paid this time and the balance still due, so your client always sees an honest running total rather than a confusing “paid in full.”
What your client sees automatically
You may not need to lift a finger. When a client pays through the magic-link portal, they land on a confirmation screen the instant the card clears, and the paid invoice in their portal updates to show the receipt right there.
- The portal invoice displays the Paid status with the payment date and amount.
- Your client can download the receipt PDF themselves, straight from the portal, with no login required.
- It’s already branded with your logo, so it looks like it came from you, not from us.
For most freelancers, this is enough. The client paid, they saw the confirmation, and they grabbed their own copy. But when you want to send the receipt yourself, the next section covers it.
Send the receipt yourself
Sometimes the person who pays isn’t the person who needs the receipt, like a contractor who pays but whose bookkeeper files the records. To put the receipt in the right hands:
- Open the paid invoice from Invoices.
- Click Download PDF to save the branded receipt.
- Attach it to a short email, or share the portal link so they can pull it themselves anytime.
If you’d rather hand off the whole portal view, you can resend the magic link and let them download the receipt on their own schedule. The portal stays live, so they can come back to it long after the payment cleared.
Recorded an offline payment instead?
If a client paid you by bank transfer, check, or cash and you logged it manually, the invoice still flips to Paid and produces the same receipt PDF. That means your offline-paying clients get the exact same clean document as your card-paying ones, all from one place.
