Send or resend a payment receipt

Getting Paid Payments Receipts

A recorded payment in Fee-Lion with the Receipt button for sending or resending the client's receipt.

When a payment comes in, Fee-Lion emails your client a thank-you receipt. It goes out once per payment, whichever way the money arrived: a card or bank payment in the portal, auto-pay, a deposit, or a payment you record or mark paid yourself.

What the receipt shows

  • The amount paid, the method and the date.
  • What it was applied to: the invoice, or the deposit on an estimate, and the project.
  • Where things stand now: paid in full, the balance remaining, or the next instalment with its amount and due date.
  • A button back to the invoice or estimate in the client’s portal.

A bank (ACH) payment gets its receipt when it clears, not when it starts.

Choose whether a payment sends one

  1. When you record a payment or deposit, use the Send the client a thank-you receipt switch. It starts at your workspace default.
  2. When you mark an invoice paid, the confirmation has the same switch.
  3. To change the default, go to Settings → Preferences → Invoices → Receipt Email and set Email Clients a Receipt.

Resend a receipt

  1. Open the payment and choose Receipt (it sends, or resends, the receipt), or use Send receipt / Resend receipt on the payments list.
  2. From the client portal view, the invoice’s Team card can send or resend the receipt for each payment.

A resend goes out even if receipts are switched off for the workspace, because you asked for it.

Tip: Payments brought in by an import don’t email anyone, so moving your history into Fee-Lion never surprises old clients.

FAQ

Could a client get two receipts for one payment?

Not automatically. Each payment’s receipt is claimed once before it sends, so a retried card confirmation can’t send it twice. Only a resend you choose sends another.

Do credit notes send a receipt?

No. A credit note isn’t a payment.

Who receives it?

The client’s contacts with an email address.
