For handyman businesses

Ten small jobs a week, each one invoiced and paid before you drive to the next.

A ceiling fan here, a door that sticks there, a punch list for a landlord between tenants. Fee-Lion handles hourly work with a minimum, flat-rate odd jobs, materials at cost plus your markup, and a Pay button on every invoice, so the little jobs stop leaking money.

Sound familiar?

The paperwork side of the job.

  • Small jobs don't feel worth invoicing, so they get done on a promise and paid whenever.
  • You run to the hardware store twice and forget to add the parts to the bill.
  • A "quick fix" runs over, and you eat the extra hour because the minimum wasn't written down.
  • Landlords and property managers send punch lists of twelve items, then question three of them at payment time.
  • Repeat customers pay by Venmo, check or cash, and the notebook never quite reconciles.

A real example

What an invoice looks like.

Line by line, the way you’d actually bill it: quantity times rate, tax worked out for you.

  • Your client opens one link and pays by card.
  • Reminders go out on their own until it’s paid.
  • Your logo, your terms, and your line items saved for next time.

  1. 8:30 a.m., Ruth's list: fan, two doors, tub caulk, three drywall holes, loose towel bar. Tap Labor on the Job Clock when you walk in.
  2. Store run for mud, caulk and anchors. Tap Store run, and snap the $54 receipt onto her job.
  3. Fan in, doors planed and rehung, holes patched. Build INV-0388: 3.5 hours, the fan, the doors, materials at cost plus 15%.
  4. Send it from the driveway; she pays by card from the link before you start the truck.
  5. Afternoon, a landlord's turnover punch list: twelve items as a shared checklist on the project. He checks progress from his office.
  6. Check off the last item and convert completed goals into a draft invoice. No item gets missed or questioned.

Questions

What people ask before they switch.

How should a handyman charge: hourly or by the job?

Most do both. Hourly (often with a one or two hour minimum) fits small mixed lists and repairs that can grow; flat rates fit predictable tasks like mounting a TV or installing a fan. Put both on the same invoice and state the minimum in your terms.

How do I invoice a customer for materials as a handyman?

Keep the receipt, decide your markup (many add 10% to 20% to cover store runs and returns), and bill materials as their own line. In Fee-Lion the receipt goes on the job as an expense, so you can show it if a customer asks.

Do handymen need a license?

It depends on the state and the job size. Many states let unlicensed handymen take small jobs below a dollar limit (California's is under $1,000 including labor and materials, for example) and require a contractor's license above it or for electrical, plumbing and gas work. Check your state's licensing board before quoting bigger jobs.

What is a good invoice app for a handyman?

One you will actually use from the truck: quick to build an invoice on a phone, takes card payments from a link, records cash and checks, and keeps receipts with the job. Fee-Lion does those, plus a Job Clock for hourly days and recurring invoices if you take on property-maintenance contracts.

Your next invoice could go out tonight.
