Your preferences are the defaults Fee-Lion applies to every new document. Set them once and each estimate, invoice, and expense starts populated — so you’re editing exceptions instead of filling in the same fields every time.
Where to find them
Open Settings → Preferences. Everything here applies workspace-wide and carries onto new documents automatically. You can always override a default on any individual document.
Defaults worth setting
- Set your default estimate and invoice terms — payment windows and the boilerplate that appears on documents.
- Set your default tax rate so line items calculate correctly out of the box.
- Set a default deposit percentage to request up front on estimates.
- Confirm your branding and template style.
- Review your payments setup so invoices can be paid online.
Why set defaults first
- Faster documents — most fields are already correct.
- Consistency — every client sees the same terms and look.
- Fewer mistakes — no forgetting tax or terms on a one-off.
Tip: Defaults are starting points, not locks. Change the tax rate or deposit on a single document anytime without touching your global preferences.
